Behind the scenes at North American Decal
Mind if we geek out a little?
-
For over two decades North American Decal produced thousands of decals a year for a leading non-profit, fish and wildlife conservation brand. Recently, when they redesigned their logo, we faced a sticky challenge. The logo wasn’t suited for screen printing. It had very little tolerance when it came to bleeds and trapping.
Hunting further afield
At first our designers proposed minor alterations to the logo. But what our client needed wasn’t compromise, it was options. So, we set to work. We ran tests using our digital printing and lithography presses. In the end we found the right solution by tapping into our network of approved partner printers. By collaborating we got the job done. At North American Decal impossible is only temporary.

When our client, a Fortune 100 Agricultural and Construction equipment manufacturer launched a new utility vehicle with a camo design, we had a sticky color matching challenge. The hoods would be pre-printed using hydrographics. Our task was to match the vibrancy and color of the hood using a digital press.
Showing our true colors
After many failed tests using our 4-color press we knew the solution would be to use our 8-colour digital printers which can reach up to 99% Pantone Solid Coated within Gamut, the widest in its class and perfect for matching difficult brand colors. At North American Decal our screen printers have an almost freakish superpower for color matching. But even with their trained eyes, there are always challenges.

Canada’s number one producer and distributor of gases derived from air was ready to unveil their refreshed brand identity. They needed ready-to-apply vinyls in nearly 60 sizes for multiple surfaces including vehicles, buildings and equipment.
We had our work cut for us
To provide quick turnaround, graphic consistency and reduce material usage we leveraged our Platinum Partner Status with 3M to source over 6000 sq ft of cast vinyl for each of the client’s custom colors. We computer-cut the vinyl, slicing costs and reducing material usage. The work we do happens in our 30,000 sq. ft. facility, but the solutions we find happen when our amazing printers, detail-obsessed account reps and inventory management genies put their thinking caps on.

When a major north American waste collection brand bought a competitor in Canada, the acquired company’s fleet of trucks and collection bins needed rebranding. Fast.
Bin there. Done that.
This was a large-scale national project requiring a full court press. It wouldn’t be our first. Each vehicle required 9 decals to cover 90 sqft of truck surface. We advised the client on how to optimize decal designs for impact and ease of installation. Our printers used screen printing, digital printing, computer cutting. Our designers created 10 templates so truck decals could be localized with each driver ‘s phone number and address. Talk about curb appeal!

When a leading bulk cement supplier with their own fleet asked us to wrap a pressurized 67ft tanker and a 36ft cement mixer to support a health charity, we were enthusiastically onboard. What an opportunity to do good by finding a solution to a sticky challenge.
Cementing trust
Wrapping 600 sqft of a cement truck with 26 panels and a rotating drum while making sure graphics line up and colors are consistent is no easy feat. Which is why the client came to us. We advised on the design of the graphics to optimize them for installation, and for maximum effect. Because the drum would often be still, but more often rotating, we proposed a solution that would allow for effective branding in either state. Once done, we stood back, smiled and said, (cue drum roll) that’s a wrap!
